I did a fun solo ride today: about 100 miles of backroads through the southern Santa Cruz Mountains. It took about five hours, which indicates the average speed of the roads. :) I intentionally sought out goat trail roads, meaning that I had my share of both excellent riding and of tight U-turns when the roads suddenly ended. :D
The most recognizable part of my ride (especially for non-Bay Area residents) is probably Loma Prieta, the namesake for the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake (the mountain was the closest landmark to the earthquake's epicenter). A great deal of my ride today was directly atop the San Andreas Fault, which was entirely intentional. :)
I'll do a ride report later, but here are some good pics in the meantime.

I can't believe you'd do a route like that without your geology freak of a friend... ;) That's just cruel. I may have to do the ride myself once the bike gets its overhaul.

Cool! I had wondered what Loma Prieta road was like, and now I know. ;-)
Don't forget the writing class tomorrow :-) Will send real email later: am tired now, just got back from my major league snarfari
