Making cheap rear racks from PVC pipe

Since the rear rack I'd bought for my XT is backordered, Peter and I needed to come up with something for next weekend's Sport-Touring.net dualsport ride.

Here's the write-up for our el-cheapo PVC rear racks.

Seems like all you need. You going to cancel your order?

Hey Carolyn,

I see you've got an Airhawk...
You like? Dislike? Opinions?

Nah, I still definitely want the Happy Trails rack. This is good for a weekend and one dry bag, but I don't think this homemade rack could hold a tent, camping gear, dry bag, extra gas can...

Stephen -- I've never used the Airhawk, since it essentially adds an inch to the seat height. ;) It's on Peter's XT right now, but he's never ridden with it yet. I'm hoping he'll like it on this coming weekend, when we have many a mile to put on...I'll have him review it then!

I love my Airhawk. I could ride all day on it without getting off, but I would need a much bigger tank.

Love your site. How did you fasten the PVC rack to the bike? It looks like it was just bungied somewhere near the seat, and then to the tail light.
